The City

The year is 1487 the month of Ventis (The Month of Winds) in the industrial capital of the Kingdom of Edenn. It is a city of staggering verticality and arcane smog, built beneath the massive, floating skyland of Unus, which is physically anchored to the earth by the Great Chain. Magic and machinery collide here, fueled by Zephyrite, a rare, opalescent crystal mined from the skylands. It helps channel arcane conductivity and powers the city’s infrastructure. This harbor city has a staggering nine districts. All of which are teeming with life from all over the world of Andala. Ironport, the proud capital city, stands like a mighty mountain of industry balancing atop a fine needle. A slight breeze or gentle push in any way could send it toppling in a direction of religious doctrine or arcane innovation.

Here in Ironport the wealthy and influential compete for power as the King Al’Thor Dederic is nearing his deathbed. He is followed by 3 heirs. Prince Rand (The Flame), backed by the Church of Eternal Flame, is pushing for “Divine Purification”; Princess Raenessa (The Coin), backed by the Gilded Consortium, pushing for an oligarchy ruled by wealth; and lastly, the King’s brother Prince Bilal (The Eye), one of the Grand Magi of Nefnore, pushed for a Magocracy. Much of the influence is coming from the Gilded Consortium and Ironport Industries, rivals in the trade of commerce and influence. Among these giants though are people with great resolve and resilience. Then there are the people of Ironport though the population is majority humans, you will see people of all ancestral backgrounds from around the world. Breathing life, culture, and diversity into this city. The population of this city is somewhere between 1,000,000 - 1,100,000. With this number fluctuating a lot depending on season, holidays, or specific events.

The current state of technology is there are simple firearms available to the public, used for adventures, and commoners alike for self-defense. Though they are volatile and unreliable depending on the maker. These weapons can misfire due to a sudden magical fluctuation or even a damp breeze. There are complex, rifled long-guns and heavy Zephyrite cannons that are strictly controlled by the Golden Legion and elite mercenaries. Obtaining one usually requires crafting or of peculiar means. Despite these advancements, the sword and shield remain the primary tools of war. Reliability is king, a blade never jams, and a shield never runs out of ammunition. In a world where magical wards can deflect bullets, the consistent impact of steel is still the surest way to fight.

Humans are the dominant ancestry in Ironport as stated before, though you will find all walks of life within the city. They make up about 65-75% of the population of Ironport. They can be found all over the world but most find their home in the Kingdom of Edenn. Their ambition is what drives them, whether it’s their aspiration for knowledge, power, or devotion. They pursue what they want with great fervor. Humans born in Ironport are hardened people. Having to work long hours to sustain a living in Ironport most aspire to provide better opportunities for their kin, but in Ironport the most ambitious, dedicated, and connected rise to the top. Most people didn’t get to where they were without stepping over someone, or honing a trade. The majority of nobility are represented by Humans and just as many follow the teachings of The Church of the Eternal Flame. The predominant religion in Ironport. Those that don’t follow the doctrine of CoEF, tend to follow the arcane or their own personal code.

Though the CoEF might be the predominant religion, there are representations of many different gods in the city. Gods of many different natures are allowed to be worshipped in the city though some might be frowned upon or misunderstood. Equally as devout as the CoEF are the practitioners of the arcane. The sister location of the primary arcane school in all of Andala. The Nefnore Academy of the Arcane is located in the heart of the city and has been here as long as the CoEF. Though these two ways of thought despise each other they coexist and jockey for favor in the Royal Court.

The city is broken into nine districts. The districts are named the following, the Iron Greens, Iron Gate, Silver Awning, Burnished Harbor, Sky-Forge District, Rupert Square, Ivory Pavilion, the Ironport Castle Grounds, and the Undercity. With the poorest and most populated district within the city walls being the Silver Awning. The polar opposite is true for the Ivory Pavilion. Where bureaucrats devise plans, and the CoEF and Nefnore Academy reside. Rupert Square is the business district, while the trade/mercantile districts are the Burnished Harbor, and Sky-Forge district. The Iron Gate serves as the main training grounds and location for The Golden Legion and the Iron Greens reside just outside the city walls. It serves almost as a waystation for people wanting to enter the city or disappear. The Undercity serves as the criminal underbelly of Ironport, with criminal enterprises taking advantage of the scarce entrances, and labyrinth of catacombs to conduct business. All of these moving parts make up one of the greatest kingdoms in all of Andala. It is rich with opportunities for all, you just have to be willing to take it.
